WIND SDI II card with TELE Software


Wind SDI II is a PCI-card for overlay and output of computer graphics. It can be used as a basis for creation of on-air graphic design systems (CG-systems) and broadcasting video servers.CG Card with SDI in/out & SDI Key out, Preview; Playout automation and on-air text and graphics overlay, chromakey


Basic features:

? Works with 8 and 10-bit component serial SDI signal, in accordance with CCIR656 and SMPTE 424M, SMPTE 292M, SMPTE 259M-C and DVB-ASI recommendations. SDI embedded sound support. Automatic activation of video signal relay bypass mode upon computer power loss
? Synchronization from input SDI signal or analog Black burst (Composite) signal. When external synchronization is lacking internal synchronizing generator is applied
? Digital key signal (alpha-channel) output for use with external mixer that has a DSK (Down Stream Key) input. Key signal delay relative to output graphics has a software controlled wide adjustments range
? 8-channels (4 stereo pairs) SDI Embedded audio input/output
? When SDI signal passes through the card all the embedded information is kept unchanged, sound can be either kept or changed depending on the situation
? Error control in incoming SDI signals with check total count according to EDH method. EDH packets on the output are formed anew in accordance with SMPTE165 recommendation

TELE is a robust content playout and on-air text and graphics design server.
TELE software provides TV-studio broadcasting automation by scheduling the programs output, inserting regional
advertisement into central channel broadcasting line-up, adding titles, overlaying stills and logos, generating
clocks display and much more.
The application does not require any additional equipment (synchronizers, mixers, transcoders, nonlinear editing
systems, etc.) and allows to execute graphic information, video and audio overlay directly over the pass through signal.
TELE package includes Character Generation program Alpha Pro.

Key features

  • Automatic, scheduled video material on-air playback in round-the-clock, 24/7/365 mode non-stop.
  • Graphics and text on-air design affixed to schedule or controlled manually.
  • Flexible triggering of every schedule element (at the end of the previous element playback, according to specified time, manually from external GPI or keyboard (hot keys)).
  • Using the following elements in the same schedule in any combination:
    • Video clips of different format, resolution and frame rate (can be joined into blocks): MPEG-2 (MPG, M2V, VOB), MPEG-1, MPEG-4 (DivX), MJPEG, DV (Type I or II - Matrox, Pinnacle, Canopus), Windows Media (ASF, WMV), Quick Time (MOV, DV), etc.;
    • Video blocks;
    • Animation files (sequence of graphic files (TGA) with alpha-channel);
    • Titles output scripts (prepared in Alpha Pro application) with audio (*.WAV format);
    • Text blocks (crawls) with audio (*.WAV format).
    • Editing schedule and its elements:
    • Combine initial video files of various formats into video blocks while applying simple editing techniques (cutting, straight splice);

  • Rotation mechanism for automatic broadcast filling with text messages, graphic elements and video clips. No need to create a scrupulous playlist! It is sufficient to indicate the number of runs for every element and time range for their playback.
  • Synchronously with the start of every schedule element it is possible to overlay an additional unlimited number of text and graphics elements (secondary events) over it:
    • Graphics files (including those with alpha-channel);
    • Animation files (sequence of graphic files (TGA) with alpha-channel);
    • Titles (Windows fonts, Unicode coding supported);
    • Digital and analog clocks;
    • Temperature sensor readings.
  • Foreground composition elements and their contents can change from one schedule element to another, or when new values are transmitted during specified video clip frames display.
  • Clock display in TELE application consists of several layers:
  • Clock dial layer (static picture or full-screen video);
  • Dynamic layer of hour, minute and second pointers.
  • The application of ?graphic frames? sequence for pointers display allows to create practically any possible clock appearance, imagination is the only limit!
  • Generating a real statistics report of video clips and blocks broadcast.

Supported video formats

TELE 2.2 supports the majority of the widespread formats that exist today:

  • TS, MP4, MOV, MPG, AVI, VOB, WMV, ASF, etc.
  • All resolutions - 480i 480p 576i 576p 720/24p 720/50p 720/60p 1080/24p 1080/50i 1080/60i, as well as clips with random resolution taken from the Internet - Youtube HD, QuickTime trailers, etc.
  • Regardless of PAL/NTSC, transcoding* is performed when necessary.
  • Regardless of SD/HD, transcoding SD-> HD or HD-> SD is performed when necessary.
  • Regardless of progressive or interlaced source file, transcoding 24p-> 50i, 60i-> 50i, 24p-> 60i, 50i-> 60i is performed when necessary

* transcoding is performed in real time without preliminary rendering during playback.


DETECT Software module

A part of TELE and TELE Info broadcast automation and informational and graphic on-air design software suite is an additional program for automatic advertising insert by DTMF-signal or by musical fragment - "bumper" (jingle, signature tune of the advertising block).
Operation principle: at a regional (retransmitting) station a special program module called DETECT constantly listens to incoming audio coming from the head station and "recognizes" (picks out from incoming audio) the DTMF-signal sound or the musical signature. The sample for comparison can be set separately for the left and right audio channel.
The program works together with the schedule, and upon detection of the specified sound sample it issues a certain command, forcing TELE/TELE Info to start the output of selected video blocks depending on current system time, or to stop the output.

Programm Module DV Delay

Both TELE and TELE Info systems for playback automation and graphics overlay contain the additional free of change program that allows to delay the pass-through signal for specified period of time. The maximum delay period depends only on the capacity of the used Disk Arrays.
The technical implementation of signal delay is the following. The pass-through TV signal is fed to the input of the hardware converter Analog-DV* via S-Video. Then converted DV-stream comes to PC through IEE 1394 interface. The delayed signal in such a way appears to be the input signal for TELE 2.2 system. Thus the insert of all video clips, logotypes, horizontal crawls etc is carrying out not by overlying the live TV signal that comes to the input of the Stream ALPHA Plus PCI-E card but using the delayed signal from Analog-DV converter.



* We recommend to use Canopus ADVC 100 (110) converter. The device has NTSC (525/60), PAL (625/50) S-Video, composite analog inputs / outputs. The converted DV-stream is transmitted to a computer via IEEE 1394. ADVC-100 (110) provides a stable synchronization when converting analog signal to digital, assuring perfect audio and video synchronization. Since you only need the input TV signal, ADVC-55 will be sufficient. Likewise, you can use any DeckLink card for the input signal capture (for analog signal, DeckLink Intensity card will be sufficient).
